Sodium Polyacrylate

Today we bone some science Mis Hickford gave us a cup of Sodium Polyacrylate. We did not no what it was then she said to put spoon of worter in and keep doing. It then we put 25 cups of worter in she said to stop and she put some sot in and it tornt into worter. We got told they put it in baby nappies to soak up the way that is why you see big nappies.

    Sodium polyacrylate definitely sounds like an interesting ingredient, and it was so cool to be able to learn some new facts about this unusual ingredient.
    I never knew that this was used in baby nappies, however after reading your explanation it definitely makes a lot of sense. By the sound of your experiment, the sodium polyacrylate soaked up all of the water that you were adding which resulted in a thick substance.
    Looking at the photo you have included I can see the mixture in the glass, and it looks almost grainy in texture.
    Were you able to touch the mixture once you added in the water?
    If so, what did the mixture feel like?
    You mentioned in your blogpost how the mixture turned back to water once you added salt.
    How long did this reaction take to occur, and why do you think this happened?
    Overall, it sounds like you had an extremely fun and exciting science lesson!
